About the Manager

Interview with Joe Jablonski

What interested you in becoming a Farmers’ Market Manager?
“I have been a dairy farmer all of my life. The Dolgeville Rotary sponsors the Dolgeville Farmers’ Market. My daughter is a member of the Rotary and she asked me if I would like to be the Farmers’ Market Manager. Now that I am retired, I liked the idea of giving back to my community so I agreed to take the position.”

What do you enjoy most about your market?
“I have spent 35 years milking cows and keeping up with agriculture. I am looking forward to spending time getting to know the vendors/farmers at the market because they are producers of local food like I am.”

What plans do you have for the future of your market?
“As of right now, I am just starting out getting to know the vendors/farmers. I will have more ideas as time goes on.”

Do you have any special interests, skills, hobbies?
“I enjoy keeping up with what is new in agriculture. I also enjoy fishing and boating on my free time and spending time with my family. I have three children that I am very proud of.”

In your own words, why do you feel that your market is important to Herkimer County and its resident’s?
“The farmers’ market gives producers an outlet to sell their goods. The farmers’ market gives the everyday person a chance to get fresh food to purchase and a chance to get to know who grew/produced the food that they eat.”
